Advanced Technology in Support of Analytics in the Life Sciences
Craig Liddell, Epacris
Epacris Inc delivers next generation web based search providing relevance, context and interactivity demanded by the professional search market segment. The healthcare industry today is the last frontier in the information revolution. Information drives decisions at every level and every stage of the healthcare industry from drug discovery and development to delivery and reimbursement. Yet information could not be more inaccessible if it had been planned from the beginning, information is held by proprietary interests and buried by the sheer volume of information. Adverse drug reactions, current best practices and cutting edge research information is far too difficult for medical and science professionals to access in a timely and usable fashion leading to huge inefficiencies and wasted opportunities in an already expensive and inefficient healthcare system.
The Epacris Inc search engine is built from multiple runs of proprietary indexing tools over the same content to build up a relevance map of the facts in the content. Epacris Inc allows a unified search of large collections of canonical documents; the result is a user experience like nothing available on the web today. The company's proprietary technology improves the relevance of search results to any query of the index by leveraging the benefits of associating multiple technologies to dramatically improve the probability of accurate and relevant search results.
All authoritative facts have a history, context and assumptions built into them, so simple database or term based search rarely satisfies the needs of busy professionals without additional information.
Epacris Inc fact-based search is fundamentally a new generation of search because it is based on advanced text mining, natural language processing and advanced text analytics; technologies that are focused on analysis pattern recognition and discovery of knowledge not management, retrieval and keyword search. Text mining, NLP and analytics are used in enterprise information retrieval (IR) applications with great success and Epacris Inc brings the power of these technologies to the web for the first time.
Epacris Inc is launching a web based search engine for the biomedical peer reviewed literature in 2007 and plans releases of vertical search engines in additional fields from 2008.
